Signing the contracts for implementation of 259 development projects worth of 723 million AFN in 29 provinces
H.E Mujib Rahman Karimi the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) signed on Wednesday the contracts worth of more than 723 million AFN with the social development councils for the implementation of 259 development projects in 29 provinces of the country .
At the conference which was held on this occasion Mr. Karimi said:” the projects will be implemented in 29 provinces of the country including Urozgan, Badghiz , Badakhshan , Bamyan, Baghllan, Balkh , Parwan, Paktiya , Paktika Thakhar , Jawizjan,Kuner, Kandahar, Logar, Maidan wardak, Nangarhar , Nooristan , Herat and Helmand provinces and during their implementation around 458 thousand working days will be created for the villagers .”
According to the Minister of MRRD these projects include: the construction of 148 water supply networks, digging of 127 deep and shallow water wells, construction of 99 water reservoirs , seven latrines and construction of 4250 meters irrigation Canals. That by the implementation of the mentioned projects more than 374 thousand villagers will be benefited from the facilities.
Some of these projects will be funded by the Afghan government's national budget, while others will be funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
It is worth mentioning that the mentioned projects will be organized through the National Rural Water Supply, Irrigation and Sanitation Program of Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) and will be implemented by the Social Development Councils.
Currently, more than 17 million people in Afghanistan's cities and villages have access to safe drinking water, which is about 63 percent of Afghanistan's population, But in villages of Afghanistan, villagers need to have access to drinking water more than 53 percent that is why that the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) is trying to implement more water supply projects that by year 2030, 100 percent of the country's villagers gain access to safe drinking water.
