Tackling the COVID-19 Crisis Together

Miss Shukria 24 is the Deputy Head of Nakarabad Community Development Council (CDC) in Shabirghan, the center of Jawzjan province. After she participated in a Coronavirus Awareness Campaign conducted by the Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/CCNPP), she fully became aware of serious threats posed to human life by this deadliest virus as well as she learned how to fight against this pandemic disease that can spread throughout a large area unless prevention instructions are considered carefully.

The conduct of awareness campaign has given Miss Shukria a major incentive that she would assist the indigent residents of her village by sewing masks that can help protect them against the Coronavirus, especially when they go out in the public.

Miss shukria sews around 100 masks every day. So far, she has been able to distribute a total of 1,000 masks free of charge to the villagers who are suffering from financial difficulties.

She said: “We should take the danger of Coronavirus seriously. By wearing masks, we can combat this deadly contagious disease. Most of the residents in our community cannot afford to buy masks. Furthermore, the masks are in shortage in the market these days. This is why I have decided to start sewing masks in cooperation with my four apprentices to help the residents overcome the Coronavirus disaster in our village. In addition, I am determined to train more women both in my village and our neighboring communities how to sew and provide masks in an attempt to prevent the pandemic outbreak of Coronavirus in the region.”

The Nakarabad CDC is consisted of 30 members, half of which are female. Miss Shukria is one of the hardworking female members who always tries to offer social support for the sake of her community’s well-being.

It shouldn’t be remained unsaid that the Coronavirus Awareness Campaigns so far conducted by the MRRD/CCNPP have had positive impacts on rural people across the country.
