Potable water provided for 10,300 families in November 2019

In the course of November 2019, as many as 37 water supply projects have been completed and handed over in 13 provinces of the country including Badghis, Baghlan, Bamyan, Daykundi, Ghor, Helmand, Kundoz, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Parwan, Takhar, Wardak and Zabul. With the implementation of these projects, over 10,300 families in the aforementioned provinces got access to potable water. The projects included construction of: 21 water supply networks (solar powered and gravity-fed) in Yakawlang and center of Bamyan province, Sorkh Parsa district of Parwan province, Shahristan district of Daykundi province; Rudad, Kot, Norgarm and Nazian districts of Nangarhar province; Qadis and Ab Kamari districts of Badghis province, Firuzkoh district of Ghor province, Rustaq Abad district of Kunduz province, Qalat district of Zabul province, and Deh Salah district of Baghlan province, and digging of eight deep water wells in Nahri-Saraj, Nawa and Nad Ali districts of Helmand province, and • Drilling of ten wells in Rustaq district of Takhar province and 14 others in Sayed Abad district of Wardak province.
The total cost of these projects is 93,590,449 AFN – of which 44,293,123 AFN were funded through the State budget by Ministry of Finance (MoF) while the rest of 49,297,326 AFN were funded by UNICEF. Besides, the Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (SHP) unit, during this month, has verified as many as 111 communities and certified 235 others as Open Defecation Free (ODF) in Nangarhar, Badghis, Ghor, Daykundi, Paktia and Helmand provinces, where around 231 latrines have been newly built and 846 others improved by the communities. It is worthy to be mentioned that these projects were implemented by the Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Irrigation Program (Ru-WatSIP) of Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD).
