About Ru-WatSIP/MRRD:

The national WASH policy 2010 has kept the implementation strategy for hygiene and sanitation very flexible which means the implementation approach could be chosen based on its success stories and good result in the past in the country. One of the new approaches which have proven to be successful in achieving the indicators is the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS). RuWatSIP based on the success stories and witnesses on the ground has decided to use this approach as a tool for implementation of hygiene and sanitation program. The CLTS facilitator is the grass root level implementer and liaising person with the villagers who can accomplish and achieve the target or bring failures to the project.

Among the others UNICEF, is one of the main donors for MRRD provided support for implementation of Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation (WES) projects in schools and Health Care Facilities (HCF) alongside with assistance in capacity building within MRRD and for the sector.

Summary of Duties

For ensuring the objectives set in the project document are being achieved through the planned activities in provinces, there is need for hiring Senior Hydro-Geologist Assistant.

Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist the hydrogeology and geophysics unit in preparing working plan. 
Assist the hydrogeology and geophysics unit in conducting hydro-geological survey on groundwater availability, well site selection, sustainable water wells construction and adjustment of well drilling methods in respect to the geological conditions.
Assist, guide and instruct the provincial team for collections of accurate hydro-geological data and other required technical activities such as digging, compressor test and pumping test of water wells when needed.
Analyzing litho-logical samples collected during drilling and determination size of screen slot and gravel pack material.
Conduct the water well pumping test, perform proper measurement and documentation of field pumping test, check and control the validity and accuracy of field pumping test data.
Assist the geophysical investigation team during exploration and studies of groundwater by geophysical instrument.
Entry of hydro-geological and geophysical data into the MIS/GIS database system of RuWatSIP and keep the project database updated.
The assistant should closely work with the project management offices to check and ensure the project hydrogeology data is provided in accordance with the project need/requirements and objectives.
Proper maintenance of the equipment’s related to hydro-geology and geophysics unit.
Doing any other tasks assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications/ Experience, Skills & Abilities Required:

Bachelor degree in Geology or Hydrogeology, Hydrometeorology whit 2 years relevant experience or baccalaureate degree with 4 relevant experience, preference will be given for bachelor degree.
Have knowledge of general geological and hydro-geological conditions of Afghanistan.
Minimum two years’ work experience in the related field.
Computer skills, including extensive experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, Internet and e-mail skills required.

Reporting to:

Senior Hydro-Geologist Assistant will report to Hydrogeology Manager and the WASH Project management.
