Rural Technology Park

With a view to promote the importance of appropriate rural technologies for rural development among government officials, professionals and academic / research institutes, local enterprises, NGOs and rural community, AIRD is in the process of establishment of RTP. The RTP is indeed a technical project and new concept in Afghanistan. National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) India which has a similar RTP has been engaged by AIRD to establish Rural Technology Park in Kabul and it is being funded by Spanish Government.

The objectives

    1. Create a platform for appropriate and cost effective technologies for rural area

    2. Serve as catalyst demonstration to accelerate wider dissemination of such technologies for enhancing productivity, income and quality
of life to facilitate sustainable rural development

    3. Provide skill development training to end users of technology and for self employment

    4. Exposure to policy makers and implementers on various options for technology induced development

    5. Facilitate technology transfer by networking with different stakeholders

The approach for technology dissemination also includes Action Research under which a few villages will be selected, after a baseline survey, for adaptation by RTP and turn them into model villages. Location specific technologies will be identified; Self Help Groups will be trained in skills to take up enterprises, while RTP will provide a hand-holding support continuously working along with other MRRD programmes to bring in convergence and sustainability. RTP will focus initially in three sectors i.e. water supply & sanitation, Renewable energy and small and medium enterprises.

    • Surveyed traditional technologies from four economical zones  and rest will be surveyed in the near future

    • A Rural Technology Directory of available proven technologies and technology providers is under progress

    • RTP is in the process to enter into partnership with technology developers/ suppliers for demonstration, training and transfer

    • A network has been created with NIRD, Hyderabad India, CIRDAP, Donor agencies, NGos etc to facilitate continuous exchange of
knowledge and experience through T-Bank concept

      and demonstration in RTP.
