MRRD Minister's Biography


Education: Post-Graduate studies in Development and Reconstruction Bachelor Degree in Engineering.

Following the formation of the National Unity Government, Engineer Nasir Ahmad Durrani was nominated to serve as the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, where his nomination received a strong vote of confidence by the Afghan Wolesi Jirga (Parliament) on January 28, 2015 and on February 1, 2015 he was sworn into office.

Prior to this, Minister Durrani served as the Deputy Minister for Solid Mines in the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum. He worked in this position for five years and brought about significant achievements particularly in the area of upholding legal extraction of mines. In 2010, Minister Durrani successfully prevented illegal extraction in 194 coal mines in Bamyan.


He also reactivated the Mazar Power Plant, which successfully cleared all of its debts. He also served as Economic Advisor at the same ministry.

Since 1980, Minister Durrani has served in various capacities with governmental and non-governmental organizations, including working as General Manager of Investment at the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum in 1980; Technical Advisor with VITA in Peshawar in 1985; Project Manager for Afghanistan’s Energy Sector Evaluation Project, which was supported by British and French energy companies; Manager of the Steel Mills Company in Peshawar in 1995 and the Head of Administration Department in the Ministry of Public Works in 1993.

Minister Durrani has completed his post-graduate studies in Development and Reconstruction from Nebraska University - USA in the year 1988. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Kabul University.

Minister Nasir Ahmad Durrani was born in Pul-e-Kandahari village of Mohammad Agha district of Logar province. He speaks Dari, Pashto and English. He is married and has six children.
