Short Biography of Mr.Ahmad Shaheer Shahriar

Mr. Ahmad Shaheer Shahriar was born in Kabul province in 1982. He completed his primary and secondary education at Amani High School, Kabul province. Mr. Shahriar was awarded his Bachelors in Business Administration (Business Management) from Preston University, Islamabad, his Masters in Business Administration (Management), from the London Business College and his MA in Conflict, Development and Security from the University of Leeds, as a Chevening scholar.

Mr. Shahriar has extensive experience in the Afghanistan Government, including positions as the Director of Mines, for the Ministry of Mines; CEO of the Afghanistan Land Authority (Arazi); Director General of Private Sector Development, Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Director of Strategic Communication, Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development and Project Manager in the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation.

In addition, Mr. Shahriar has worked for a number of international donors, including the World Bank, as a Consultant for Social Protection and Labour Global Practice, a Manager of Program and Public Affairs for a USAID project, and as a Political Affairs Officer at the British Embassy.

Mr. Shahriar has represented Afghanistan as a panel member in a number of negotiations, including the Ainak Copper Mines negotiation between the Ministry of Mines and the Government of China, for trade issues in Turkey and for the Afghanistan and Pakistan Trade Agreement.

Mr. Shahriar is fluent in Dari, Pashto and English.

Mr. Ahmad Shaheer Shahriar was appointed as Deputy Minister for Programs in the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development in May 2015.
