The Women Economic Empowerment Rural Development Program (WEERDP) will launch in 34 provinces of Afghanistan

H.E Minster of Rural Rehabilitation and Development held a meeting with World Bank’s South Asia Social Development Specialist, Mr.Janmejay, and as well as other respective World Bank representatives and MRRD officials.The World Bank representatives expressed their satisfaction regarding the achievements of Afghanistan Rural Enterprise Development Program (AREDP), the predecessor of WEERDP, and emphasized on its importance in economic empowerment within the five covered provinces.H.E Minister of MRRD also stated his gratitude to World Bank representatives for the extension of AREDP in the form of WEERDP, while also discussing the significant impact of the program which will cover 500,000 rural women in all provinces of Afghanistan. Furthermore, strengthening rural enterprises, increasing domestic productions, empowerment of national economy, in-house employment opportunities for women, and creating linkages of local products in the main markets of Afghanistan and beyond will be some of the program’s goals; which will begin its first phase this week In Shaa Allah.
