About Bamboo/ AREDP/MRRD:

The Mission of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) is to ensure the social, economic, and political welfare of rural society, especially poor and vulnerable people, through the provision of basic services, strengthening local governance, and promoting sustainable livelihoods.  MRRD accomplishes this mission through donor funded national programs in the areas of governance, infrastructure and economic growth.

The Afghanistan Rural Enterprise Development Program (AREDP) is aimed at harnessing the potential of the private sector for inclusive economic growth and sustainable job creation in rural Afghanistan over a 10-year time period. The program aims at building on the social capital gained under the National Solidarity Program (NSP) and transforming it into economic capital.

Keeping in view the AREDP objectives and current needs, it is important to introduce new and potential enterprises like Bamboo or similar products through the support to its farming, production, services and trade. Therefore, it is necessary to realize the immense economic potential of this amazing material, develop its utilization and propagation and to raise plantation of Bamboo or its similar products species. Development of micro entrepreneurs and small farmers is more than just developing primary knowledge and skills of product development and framing as business. It is essential to build their capacities and promote the concept of farming as a profitable business. With more lessons learnt and experience gained, AREDP would like to adopt more inclusive approach on enterprise development and support bamboo products value chain including the farmers, input suppliers, artisans/producers, traders, retailers and service providers.



Under the supervision and guidance of the Provincial Manager, the purpose of this position is to maintain certain level of control environment at office and at district level. In addition, the post holder will be responsible to assists line manager in managing compliance issues, implement internal auditor recommendation, visit district office to build provincial key staff capacity. The position holder will also focus on agriculture management in line with Afghan agricultural law, work with provincial staff to bring improvements in system and processes as well as implement corrective actions plans.

Job Description:


With the assistance of Provincial Project Manager, the agriculture officer will develop quarterly and monthly work plan and budget plans, including monthly monitoring plan.
He/she will conduct visits to district programme site at 90 % time to field to observe and assess the performance of target beneficiaries’ and provide to them information and technical advice as required.
He/she will closely work with relevant project field staff and target farmers to implement the project activities and will send monthly progress report against the agreed objectives and outcomes.
Conduct need assessment survey in the district
Procure and distribution of the bamboo inputs, improved varieties
Conduct mobilization meetings with target farmers, and promote sustainability through farmer’s participation and involvement in all Agricultural activities.
Seek technical advice from the Provincial Project Manager in Agriculture related project activities and impart the knowledge and information to the target beneficiaries through training and demonstration on improved agriculture production.
Conduct regular visits to farmer’s fields, identify technical problems investigate causes, advise effective solutions to farmers and commercial growers to assure crop quality and low crop damage and ensure increased crop production levels. 
Provide information or recommendations to farmers or other landowners regarding ways in which they can best use land, promote bamboo growth, or avoid or correct problems such as erosion. 
Develop methods of conserving or managing soil that can be applied by farmers. 
Conduct experiments to develop new or improved varieties of field crops, focusing on characteristics such as yield, quality, disease resistance, nutritional value, or adaptation to specific soils or climates. 
Develop new or improved methods or products for controlling or eliminating weeds, crop diseases, or insect pests and identify or classify species of insects such as locust.
Document and share case studies, success stories and field visit reports as and when required.
Discussion with the community regarding extension of new methodology and introducing new varieties and techniques in the area bamboo production.
He/she will delivery bamboo, orchard management and agro technique training to farmers.
He/she will carry out the post distribution and post harvesting survey in the field.
He /she will establish bamboo nursery in the target area.

Job Requirements:


Work Experience

4 years of experience in a similar position, providing financial and administrative support;
Experience with field monitoring, providing narratives to figures, technical data analysis and quantitative data;
Experience working with agricultural field in any National and International Organization, including multiple currencies and jurisdictions, and international donor reporting;



Possess at least a BSc degree in NRM or forestry. 
Evidence of a highly developed computer literacy 
Candidate must have good communication skills and should speak and write in English language.
Knowledge of Dari and Pashtu language will be an added value.

Willingness and ability to travel Kandahar and Nangarhar.
